Electrical wiries through floor joist. Running wire through floor joists. Drill holes with a diameter of no more than one third the depth of the joist staying 2 in. From the top and the bottom if it s a dimensional lumber joist. Electrical staples are approximately 1 2 inch wide and can be attached with a hammer to hold the wire in place beneath the joists.
What our code is not clear on is how close does it need to be to the mechanical protection such as a running board before it is not mechanically protected any longer. Where and how to drill joists for electrical cables or plumbing runs depends on what type of floor framing you have. In canada we have rule 12 514 b that allows the installation of wires on the lower faces of joists if suitably protected. I remember reading somewhere concerning rules about drilling though floor joists but i can t find it anymore.
The best way to install an electrical staple is to put the prongs. Appears to be a bit of a judgement call.
